Why does replacing food stamps with food so anger liberals?

13 February 2018 American Thinker

The Trump administration is proposing a major shake-up in one of the country’s most important “safety net” programs, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps. Under the proposal, most SNAP recipients would lose much of their ability to choose the food they buy with their SNAP benefits.

Why does replacing food stamps with food so anger liberals?

President Trump has proposed replacing some food stamp grants with actual food. This has curiously enraged liberals, who you would think would be delighted to see “hungry” people getting food. But if you like your supermarket, you can keep your supermarket, right?

He cant do it fast enough for me…

  • Charles___Darwin

Because fraud is so prevalent in the “victim” industry.
If the “poor” in this country are so hungry, why are so many just plain fat?

    • grandma954

GREAT question, I often wonder that as I try to pass the big fat person with the cart loaded to the top and over flowing with junk using her EBT card…

      • Pompano Queen1

Agreed! The section ape tribe next door is all fat as can be including the children. One of them is as wide as he is tall. I don’t see how he gets out and plays ball in the afternoons.

      • tardisbabe

If she is stupid enough to use that money on junk food, that’s her problem and we shall see her on My 600 lb life very soon.

    • tardisbabe

Because they are lazy and they eat Big Mac supersize meals instead of actually spending that money on food to cook. A meal these days is almost $10.00 I think.
Also, it’s easier to eat while you sit in front of a computer for hours. That’s their version of multitasking.

      • grandma954

Oh you mean on the computer that gets the net for $10. because their ON food stamps to begin with???. Shit pisses me off. I pay big money for mine. We get punished for being working people and paying our bills. How is that even fair???

        • Pompano Queen1

It isn’t fair and that shit pisses me off too! I’m tired of it! It has to stop!

        • tardisbabe

          It’s not fair. I agree.
I pay full price for the net,too much IMO, and never applied for the cheapie because the net is not a required living expense. Food is vital, the computer is not, and if you need it go to the library. Library cards are free.

  • Lt Bil Drat

“Boys in girls’ bathrooms. Gutting the military. Obamacare. Leaving our borders unprotected. None of these is “radical and risky.” But giving food to poor people instead of money – that’s “radical and risky.”…
I couldn’t have said it better without building a safe space for the viewer.

  • EarnitYourself

This isn’t fair! You can’t barter care packages of food for booze and smokes!

    • Pompano Queen1

Don’t forget about selling that card for cash. For things like dey spinners, dey gold teefers, dey boom cars, dey extentions and dey nails! Baby momma gotta get her hairs done!

      • EarnitYourself

Fifty cents on a dollar. The store owners scan $8 of qualifying items for a $4 six pack of beer. They have the bar codes on sheets. The food never leaves the shelf.

Likewise, there’s the “cash back” option. Scan $100 of bar codes and hand them $50 cash to go buy drugs.

        • Pompano Queen1

Yep! Nothing but abuse of hard working taxpayers and their tax dollars.

  • Pompano Queen1

It’s about damn time! The SNAP program is being so abused by retailers (hebob stores) and recipients!

    • tardisbabe

If you know for fact a certain place that does it, report it. They WILL get busted.

      • Pompano Queen1

Really??? It happens in the wide open right in front of you. One would think that they would have already been busted.

        • tardisbabe

It takes time among other things. But it does happen.

      • grandma954

They all do it.. Just hang out long enough in one of them and see for yourself.. They sell beer ,cig, rolling papers you name it…

  • tardisbabe

Bad idea. The costs to purchase the food, package it, distribute it, hire the people to do it, will far exceed just giving people the EBT directly.

    • grandma954

Hes not talking about sending out package food, He just wants it to go back the way it started out. Its for food only food and its gotten way out of hand.. Now its just a free debit card that reloads once a month. Back in the day you couldn’t buy deli stuff only certain cereals things like that . Good for you stuff . Not chips and soda and junk food or food already cooked from the deli..

      • tardisbabe

According to the article it states a package of food though this is only the beginning stage of the proposal. This “package”has no fresh items in it.

However, Limiting what you can get is intrusive. We all talk about personal responsibility…so if you get the benefit, if you forgo produce for cookies whose fault is that?

  • tardisbabe

As a EBT recipient via my husband who is recovering still from brain surgery, I would like to debate some things in this article but it will take too long for one post.

“USDA Foods package.” The package was described in the budget as consisting of “shelf-stable milk, ready to eat cereals, pasta, peanut butter, beans[,] and canned fruit and vegetables.”
—- doesnt take into account those with gluten, dairy or peanut allergies. But these are not questions that get asked when applying for EBT. So you could be sending food items people can’t use but can sell for twice the price. How is that a good use of government money?

    • Charles___Darwin

Hopefully things will work out for you and your family, Tardis

      • tardisbabe

We’re still here. Somehow the mortgage gets paid. But I’m not going shoe shopping anytime soon. It will get better, it’s not knowing when. We are the sloth running team….we will get there when we get there.

        • Charles___Darwin

          Good luck.

      • tardisbabe

I just realized I have the worst username because it cannot be abbreviated without weirdness. Tard, Babe, TB? I’m so confused. Who am I? Where am I?

        • Charles___Darwin

Change it, we’ll know who you are. Just don’t use “Mrs. Wein” or anything like that.

          • tardisbabe

Can I use “Mrs Wine”? Seems more fun than that guy name.

          • Charles___Darwin

            I like it!

  • tardisbabe

The Trump administration’s proposal, he said, “is a far more intrusive, Big Government answer.”
This is absolutely correct. If we have to debate this, that’s a shame.

  • tardisbabe

participating in SNAP is a character flaw. No one should be on SNAP for years. Get a job!
    — nearly two years here…-husband would love to but the doctors won’t clear him still.

Rest assured everyone, the $270.00 he gets doesnt buy us lobster or steak and the only time we get cookies for my kid is when it’s half off on the clearance cart.

I have never “waved the card like it’s a platinum card.” That’s the most ignorant statement this person made.

  • tardisbabe

We have to reapply for benefits every 3-4 months.
They should go after the people that abuse the system and not the system itself.
IF someone told me two years ago I’d be on food stamps, I’d laugh. But this is the new reality right now and it’s not because we want, it’s because we need.

    • grandma954

You are the kind that needs it. Im sure he will look at that. Its the losers that sit on their asses all day and live for free he wants to stop. Not people who really need, like you and your hubby. Not your fault someone got hurt . So I think people like you will be ok… I hope anyway..

      • tardisbabe

We passed the okay exit miles ago and the “normal” has a detour. We’re gonna be okay, and we’ve been fortunate. It’s just taking longer than we want.

    • Pompano Queen1

Sorry you have to be on it! Your situation is the reason that the system exists to help those in need.

      • tardisbabe

Oh, I’m sorry to be on it too. I do appreciate the benefit, trust me. But I still want to meet those who can buy steak and lobster with that card. Ground beef is a blessing and we shop sale items like mad.

    • EarnitYourself

Don’t take it personally when we or people in general bad mouth the abusers of the program.

This is a case study in good programs meant to help, but being abused by assholes.

You and your husband need a temp hand up because of a catastrophe beyond your control. You didn’t choose your situation. It chose you.

Now, I see people at my local watering hole who run up big bar tabs, play the touch tunes juke box at $5 for 12 songs, buy cigarettes and even put money in the sort of legal gambling “game” there. They have all that money to blow on all those things not needed, but they get SNAP?
They keep their reported income low and qualify. They choose that lifestyle.
One is even on disability for his back problems. Yet he can play eighteen holes of golf every morning before he drinks twenty bucks of booze at the bar.
Those are the people we’re bad mouthing, not you.
Hope you’re husband gets a clean bill of health soon. I’m sure it been a hell of a road.

      • tardisbabe

I know, and I’m not mad or taking personally. I just thought it would be insightful to provide a point of view from those that are on it.

  • Pompano Queen1

Let me add to this…… they need to go after section 8 housing next! No more abuse of the taxpayer and their hard working dollars!
