  • I like how the folks protesting this play are using the left’s tactics against them.

A harmless dough boy made a dumb post on Facebook threatening Obama and got arrested.

This disgraceful production fills the amphitheater each night with snowflakes solely there to see Trump get killed, and that’s okay?

Below, in the Public Theater’s website’s font, is part of their statement. There’s more, but it’s self-serving. Had the will existed to serve the public by presenting Shakespeare’s ever-relevant take on the assassination of a historical figure, the company could have mounted a normal production, as they’ve done periodically over the years, turning away hundreds at every show. This production, which deliberately, tastelessly offends supporters of a sitting president, also offends respecters of Shakespeare. The playwright will survive; for now, his point has been obliterated.

Our production of JULIUS CAESAR in no way advocated violence towards anyone. Shakespeare’s
play, and our production, made the opposite point: those who attempt to
defend democracy by undemocratic means pay a terrible price and destroy
the very thing they are fighting to save. For over 400 years,
Shakespeare’s play has told this story and we were proud to have told it
    again in Central Park.
