A state lawmaker who accidentally shared a screen shot that showed pornographic websites in the web browser insisted: ‘I am not a pervert’.

Democratic Rep. Ramon Perez, of Providence, Rhode Island, called it an ‘innocent mistake’ on Tuesday after he distributed a screen grab to the House Finance Committee last Wednesday that included pornographic web titles in the other tabs.

Perez, who then shared the offending screen shot on his own Facebook page before deleting his account, claimed someone else shared the image with him.

Perez brought printouts of a Wikipedia article to give to House Finance Committee members as part of his testimony in favor of a car accident insurance bill.

But the screen shot, time stamped at 2:07am, showed multiple browser tabs with ‘teen’ ‘young,’ and ‘MILF’ in the titles. No pornographic images could be seen.

A House spokesman confirmed Perez gave the document to the clerk, who distributed them before the unsavory tabs were discovered.

Perez, who submitted a new handout the next day, said the screen shot was provided to him by a friend whom he’d asked to research the information.

He told ABC: ‘I was asking a friend if they know something about it. So a friend sent me that picture with the information I was looking for. I used that picture to make copies. I didn’t see the stuff at the top.’

When asked who that person might be, Perez said: ‘I won’t mention anything, because it’s my fault.’

Perez also shared the screen grab on Facebook in a now-deleted post, writing: ‘Tell me people what you see wrong in this picture? I was send this picture with information I need it for one of my bill, I didn’t notice what was wrong with it, until I got a few calls about it.

‘My fault for no noticing the That picture I had receive, had something bad on it, and use it by mistake.’

Rep. Teresa Tanzi, a member of the committee, called the incident ‘deeply disturbing.’

On Tuesday, the first-term representative apologized directly to Tanzi, and asked his colleagues for forgiveness.

‘I am not a pervert. I made a big mistake of trusting too much in people,’ he told them as he denied looking at pornography online.

‘I know that people don’t believe me here. They say that’s the excuse everybody makes, oh, it was somebody else.’

Perez, who is married, got emotional as he called what happened ‘a nightmare’ and said he has lost sleep over it.

‘Just give me a chance and don’t judge me so quick,’ he said. ‘It was an innocent mistake.’
