To save time go to the six minute mark and watch Bill assail Bush. For the record, this indictment was overturned by a judge 30 days earlier and 30 days subsequent to issuance.
I watched the whole thing and my initial take is that I wished Ross Perot would have won.
Fascinating on so many levels. Bill wasn’t anything like as confident he’s been more recently. In this clip, he knew he was betting the ranch and was concerned throughout his presentation to project sincerity while knowing that not everyone would buy it.
Also notable was the outright bias of the media: the Susans Spencer and Rook on CBS, and Anthony Collins on CNN, were almost literally licking their lips as they gravely intoned their message of “George, you’re toast.”
Maybe you had to be there, but I’ve forgotten why Israel, which sold the TOWs to Iran, needed U.S. permission to do this. Isn’t it possible that the U.S. had been reluctant to agree to the deal, but did so because of a whole complicated story we may never hear?
A brief nostalgia trip for me was seeing Lawrence Walsh, still at the top of his game, years after he was plain old Judge Walsh, a partner at Davis Polk when I was a proofreader there.
